Matt DeFord Artist Statement

A logophile (lover of words) from birth, Matt DeFord began finding a word of the day in high school. While in a thrift store in 2012, he found a beautiful 1950 edition of Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary five inches thick. Matt paid the $5 and began posting a word of the day faithfully. In 2018, he began illustrating a silly little comic to go with each word.

Though the images are prompted by unusual words, the meaning comes through as relevant themes in our day-to-day existance. I hope you will enjoy these colorful observations.
