Title: Closer Than Close: Exploring Close-up & Macro Photography

for 7th-12th grade, College Students and Adults 

Instructor: Carol Fox Henrichs

Description: Discover the beauty and wonder of the small world through your lens in this hands-on photography workshop. You will how to see and capture extraordinary detail in ordinary, everyday objects. Whether you’re using a DSLR, mirrorless camera, hybrid, bridge or even a smartphone with macro capabilities, you’ll walk away with the knowledge and confidence to elevate your photography and see the world in a whole new way.

Items to bring:

Required:

· Digital camera (DSLR or mirrorless preferred, but high-end smartphones with macro capability are welcome) Feel free to ask about your specific camera.

· Camera user manual

· For cameras with interchangeable lenses: a macro lens or a Telephoto zoom lens (with extension tubes, or close-up filters if available)

· Extra batteries and memory cards

Recommended:

· Tripod (preferably with adjustable legs for low angles) – loaners will be available

· Remote shutter release or smartphone app to trigger camera

· Small reflector/diffuser (collapsible or DIY), can be a half sheet of white poster board – will have some on hand for classroom use

· Flash or LED light for macro (if you have one) – loaners will be available

Optional:

· A small bouquet of mixed, fresh flowers (from the local grocery store) and a vase

· A few small items of interest from home (jewelry, coins, dried flowers, shells, etc.)
