Visual Art Society BCS invites you to join a unique art workshop. Registration link: The Art of Paper Cut – Visual Art Society Bryan-College Station In this workshop, students will be introduced to the artform of papercut; where images are created through careful cutting and removal of paper. During the 4-hour workshop, students will have the opportunity to create a papercut piece from start to finish. We will discuss transferring visual information to a linear format, laying out a drawing, varying cutting methods and techniques, positive and negative space, and ways of finalizing the papercut with color.

All supplies will be provided for the participants. When: 2:00pm – 6:pm, Saturday, December 10, 2022 Where: Inside DEGALLERY, 930 N. Rosemary Dr., Bryan, TX Cost: $140.00 ($120.00 for VAS members) Registration Closes: December 2, 2022. Cancellation Policy: Because seats are limited and supplies are purchased in advance, in order to receive a full refund, cancellation notice must be given at least 1 week (7 days) prior to the start of the workshop. Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the start of the workshop will result in a full forfeiture of registration cost.

About the Instructor

Robyn Glass writes:

I have been drawing and painting since I was very young. I was fortunate to have parents and grandparents who encouraged me artistically and allowed me to pursue this interest. In high school, my Art teacher coordinated a trip to Europe to see the historic and monumental Art museums of the world, which was a pivotal point for me. I studied art in college and earned my BFA in Studio Art with emphasis on printmaking and painting from UT Arlington in 2002. I had been working with children since high school, and found that teaching was something I loved, so I earned my certification in Art Education in 2007 and I have been teaching art professionally for about 12 years. I have shown and sold my work at various locations around Texas, including The Upstairs Gallery of Arlington, and in B/CS: Binary Space, The Frame Gallery, The Brazos Center, the Bryan Visual Arts Center, DeGallery, Living Water Pottery Studio, The Arts Council, and others. I have also designed dinnerware and textiles for MDesign Studio out of Austin, TX, with designs sold to companies such as Corelle, Dollar Tree, Tuesday Morning, Homegoods, and TJ Maxx. Additionally, I have been teaching workshops in watercolor and drawing for adult students since 2010. I am a member of the Visual Arts Society of Bryan-College Station. I paint mainly in watercolor, but I enjoy all 2-D media. Recently, I have been exploring the art of paper-cutting, and rediscovering my love of colored pencil. I am inspired by the works of John Singer Sargent, Andrew Wyeth, Chuck Close, Gerhard Richter, and countless others. People and faces are my main subjects. I choose subjects for different reasons, but I often seek to portray a sense of introspection. Like many figurative painters, I am drawn to inconsequential moments in life. I work to try to capture what might be otherwise unnoticed, momentary beauty.
