SUMMARY:New Art Show "Color and Light" by Jody Martin
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the Opening reception on February 28 at 5 pm and to the New solo art show by Award-Winning Artist Jody Martin. The show continues until March 25. \n  \nClaude Monet\, among other Impressionist artists of the 19th century\, treated light as the main subject of their paintings\, not just something that illuminates the objects to be painted. “This awareness of light and its influence on the things I love to paint\, has led me into a life of joyful observance. I love the way light plays with dancing leaves in the wind\, and how it creates a glow when it backlights the side of someone’s face or hair.  Sometimes subtle\, and sometimes dramatic\, I hope you will sense that in this exhibit\, the light is the subject.” May these comments from the artist inspire you as you view these works. \nIf light is the subject\, then color is the tool. The pastel sticks that are used in these paintings are made from the same pigments that are utilized in the making of oils\, acrylics\, and all other paints. However\, as they use minimal binding agents\, they are the purest form of paint. The absence of a strong binder allows the light to reflect off the pigment particles\, creating a vibrant effect. When pastels are applied with strokes of color\, they create paintings that are equally as permanent as paintings in other mediums. \nBorn in Lubbock\, Texas\, Jody is the daughter of Conny Martin\, artist\, and C.B. Martin\, builder and photographer. She earned her degree in art from Abilene Christian University and went on to study painting under Daniel Greene of New York. She values most the education she received from her mother\, under whose tutelage she learned classical drawing\, contemporary design\, and more importantly\, the love of painting this amazing world\, and the love of the creator who made it.  \nJody is a Master Circle Artist in the IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies)\, an Associate with Distinction in American Women Artists\, and a signature member of the Pastel Society of America\, where she has exhibited in New York. She has won awards in national and international shows\, including the Bronze Award in Pastel 100\, Outstanding Pastel in the international Bold Brush Contest\, Second Place in the Plein Air Salon Competition for Figure & Portrait\, and Best of Show with the Austin Pastel Society. In 2025 she was chosen as the Legacy Artist for the Art on the Llano Estacado Event at the Texas Tech University Museum. \nJody’s work has been published in Pastel Journal\, Southwest Art\, Plein Air\, and Practique des Arts magazines\, Strokes of Genius\, Best of Drawing\, the Dallas Morning News and multiple Richeson75 International books. \nShe taught art at Rainwater Elementary in Carrollton\, Texas for sixteen years\, and continues teaching in painting workshops around the state. She is passionate about teaching students of all ages to believe in themselves and to create from their hearts.  She now lives in Kyle\, Texas with her husband\, Jim\, and is painting full time. She spends much of her time with her grandchildren who have been the inspiration for many of her paintings.

SUMMARY:2 workshops together: "Watercolor Batik" and "Acrylic is THE COOLEST MEDIUM" Workshops with award winning artist Kathie George.
DESCRIPTION:DAY 1 – WATERCOLOR BATIK\nWax and watercolor – put the two together on textured rice paper and wow! You get a look you cannot achieve any other way. This is not an exact science\, so just relax and enjoy the process. Kathie will lead you step-by-step through her process of layering watercolor and wax\, teaching all the important skills you need to become an expert. The best way to teach you this technique is to work together on the same project\, so the class will be working from a photo she has chosen. If you’ve worked with Kathie before and would like to work on your own photo with Kathie’s help\, you can do so. You’ll be excited when you see what this technique can do for your own work! This is a fun class and you’ll be anxious to get home and try it on your own designs. No watercolor skills are necessary. We get a bit messy\, but we have fun doing it! \nDay 2 – ACRYLIC IS THE COOLEST MEDIUM\nIt can be used like watercolor\, oil and everything in between. Begin the day by learning to build a beautiful surface! Enjoy experimenting with different texture mediums to create a wonderful ground for our painting. We’ll pour and carve and stamp and scrape till we get a simply scrumptious surface. Then we develop the subject with beautiful transparent glazes and thicker applications\, too. With acrylic there are really no mistakes\, just a lot of fun as you discover that this is indeed the most forgiving\, adaptable medium.\nIf you’ve wanted to know where acrylic can take you and what it can do for your artwork\, this is the class for you. Kathie will lead you step-by-step through the painting process. You can use Kathie’s design or draw your own. You’ll leave class with a completed painting and the skills and confidence to go with it.\n \nAbout Kathie George: https://kathiegeorgeart.com/

SUMMARY:Workshop: Still Life in gouache with Natalia Andreeva
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: Still Life in gouache with Natalia Andreeva\n\nDiscover the beauty of gouache painting. This workshop explores application methods while focusing on how to observe your subject—seeing light\, form\, and atmosphere. We’ll also dive into composition\, design\, value\, color\, and edges to bring your paintings to life.\n\nList of Suggested Materials:\n \n     Casein gouache paints (cool and warm primary colors\, plus white and black)\n \n     Brushes (recommended sizes: #2\, #4\, #10 and #12). I like flat and soft.\n \n     Paper towels\n \n     Plastic bag\n \n     Watercolor paper or board (preferred sizes: between 8”x10” and 12”x16”\, please bring a couple)\n \n     Practice paper for color studies \n \n     Sketchbook (8”x10”)\n \n     Pencil\n \n     White or grey palette\n \n     Portable airtight paint saver storage palette box (16 wells)\n \n     Clips or artist’s tape\n \n     Water container to wash your brushes\n \n     Tooth picks\n\n \n\n \nBIO\n Natalia Andreeva emerged as an artist from the rich and fertile artistic climate of Novosibirsk\, in Siberia after graduating from it’s most prestigious art college. During her classical education in the canons of European art she was greatly influenced by eastern philosophy. Consequentially\, Natalia’s work is a harmonious marriage between spontaneous expressions and classical realism.\nAmong Natalia’s favorite themes are exquisite landscapes\, depicting the subtlety of nature\, still life\, where vibrant shapes and internal dynamics are shown in contrast to the commonplace subjects\, and finally\, figures and portraits brimming with humanity\, and giving testament to the beauty and harmony of the human condition.\nNatalia holds Signature Membership Status in the American Impressionist Society\, and she was a President Tallahassee Watercolor Society 2023-2024\,  President Plein Air Painters of South-East 2025. \n \n*  *  *\nStatement\n“From my early childhood I was intrigued and fascinated by the enigma of art\, this magical process that turns “nothing” into the harmonic tune of chaos. I adore this something that gives birth to new feelings and associations.\nLearning art techniques did not diminish my interest and surprise\, on the contrary\, it has deepened my passion for art. In fact\, all this may be the reason why the actual process of creation gives me the most pleasure. Each work is a continuation of the quest and each new step develops my feelings and intensifies my exploration of the magic of art.\nI prefer a personal experience of my subjects\, painting landscapes\, portraits\, still life on location; and I follow my mood in choosing the motive. I love color. I believe it is power\, it burns\, it cools\, it speaks\, and I think\, it is part of the spell.”\n\n \nWebsite: www.andreeva.com
