SUMMARY:Art Exhibition “Marrying Clay and Canvas: Interwoven Creations” A Collaborative Exhibition by Carolina Dalmas & Luis Faya
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the Opening Reception of “Marrying Clay and Canvas: Interwoven Creations”A Collaborative Exhibition by Carolina Dalmas & Luis FayaJanuary 31 at 4:00 PM | DEGALLERY \nYou are warmly invited to the Opening Reception of “Marrying Clay and Canvas: Interwoven Creations\,” a unique husband-and-wife collaborative exhibition featuring the work of visual artist Carolina Dalmas and ceramic artist Luis Faya. \nMarried for 30 years\, Carolina and Luis bring their individual creative passions into an extraordinary artistic dialogue. Carolina\, a painter who explores both traditional and multimedia approaches\, frequently incorporates Luis’s ceramic pieces into her still-life arrangements and installation work. Her practice blends painting on wood panels with the physical presence of his clay forms\, creating layered and interwoven visual narratives. \nLuis\, an engineer who has long enjoyed ceramics\, creates functional housewares and is now expanding his practice into larger\, more ambitious sculptural forms. His clay work provides both contrast and harmony with Carolina’s paintings\, resulting in a deeply connected artistic exchange. \nThis exhibition celebrates their shared journey—two mediums\, two artists\, one creative life intertwined. \nPlease join us for this special event on January 31 at 4:00 PM at DEGALLERY\, where you can meet the artists\, view their collaborative pieces\, and experience the synergy of clay and canvas brought together in one inspiring space. \nEveryone is welcome!

SUMMARY:Oil Painting workshop "Natural Colors in Realistic Painting" with Al Slavin
DESCRIPTION:Oil Painting workshop “Natural Colors in Realistic Painting” with Al Slavin \nOIL PAINTING workshop for beginners\, semiprofessionals\, and professional artists. \n3 days\,  January 22-24\,  from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm \nA free days workshop with Al Slavin where we will learn how to use dynamic light in your paintings to create an emotional bond with your viewer. Also emphasized: color theory\, values\, design and composition\, the use of mediums and techniques. \nThe paintings of Al Slavin call to mind magical memories and the promise of a beautiful future. He has the unique ability to capture with brushstrokes all that is good and right with the world and condense it into mystical scenes of enchanted light. Al Slavin moved to Homer\, Alaska when he was 14 years old and he was so moved by the raw beauty of the place that it moved him to express it through paint. He still draws on those feelings when he needs inspiration for a painting or has a little painter’s block. Al has been studying color theory\, painting techniques\, learning how to use mediums\, and experimenting with substrates for about 40 years. In his paintings\, Al tries to express emotions through good light and beautifully rendered scenes with rich colors. Most of Al Slavin’s artwork is from his imagination\, pulled from his many experiences from the many different places he has lived throughout his life. \nMore information about the artist: Al Slavin Fine Art

SUMMARY:Opening Reception of a unique solo show "CONNECTION OF TIMES"
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to an Opening Reception of a unique solo show “CONNECTION OF TIMES”\, the first in Texas\, by Russian Artist Alexander Gorelov.\nDecember 6\, Saturday\, 2-4 pm at Degallery. \nArtist Biography: Alexander Gorelov\nBorn on November 22\, 1958\, in the northern town of Khanty-Mansiysk\, Russian artist Alexander Gorelov has spent a lifetime shaped by landscapes\, traditions\, and the deep rhythms of nature. His early artistic training began in a children’s art school\, where the vast Siberian scenery—floodplains of the Ob and Irtysh Rivers\, low mountain ridges crowned with ancient cedars\, and sun-lit sandbanks scattered with rounded stones—formed his first visual language. Guided by his teacher\, Nikolai Dmitrievich Ivanov\, Gorelov learned to observe nature with precision and tenderness\, painting long plein-air sessions that nurtured his love of the natural world. \nIn 1976\, Gorelov entered the Ural School of Applied Arts\, a transformative environment filled with stone-cutting studios\, metalworking workshops\, and walls adorned with mosaics\, frescoes\, and student copies of Renaissance masterpieces. The creative energy of the Urals—its craftsmanship\, materials\, and artistic heritage—became a formative chapter in his development. From 1977 to 1979\, he served in the Soviet Army\, and in 1982 he completed his studies at the Ural School. \nAnother turning point came with the Krasnoyarsk State Art Institute\, where he studied from 1986 to 1991. The Yenisei River region\, with its dramatic shift from steep forested cliffs to quiet steppes framed by the Sayan Mountains\, offered an entirely new palette of inspiration. Ancient burial mounds\, menhirs\, stone carvings\, and petroglyphs—traces of civilizations thousands of years old—deepened his fascination with mystery\, time\, and the spiritual dimensions of landscape. In 2002\, he became a member of the Union of Artists of Russia\, exhibiting widely at regional and national levels. \nIn 2015\, Gorelov moved to Texas\, where he continues his artistic practice from his home studio. The landscapes of Texas—particularly the sprawling oak trees—gave him an immediate sense of belonging. Standing beneath an ancient oak\, protected from the sun\, he writes\, “I feel at peace. I’m home.” The discovery of fossilized shells in a nearby stream awakened the same sense of deep time that first inspired him along the Yenisei. Texas became not only a new home\, but a new artistic chapter filled with light\, warmth\, and possibility. \n\nArtist Statement\nI have always experienced art as a form of communication—an exchange carried through images\, symbols\, and the quiet language of nature. My childhood memories\, the wild landscapes of Siberia\, and the ancient worlds along the Yenisei continue to live within my work. The mysterious\, the majestic\, and the timeless all speak to me\, shaping my artistic vision. \nCreativity remains\, for me\, a profound mystery. In the studio\, childhood impressions\, new ideas\, and years of artistic study combine naturally—without effort\, as though they know their place on the canvas. My paintings are not monumental works intended for palaces or public halls. Instead\, they are intimate in scale\, created for homes and for thoughtful viewers who love nature\, silence\, and reflection—for romantics who seek beauty in the quiet details of the world. \nIn Texas\, I found a landscape that resonates deeply with my inner world. The ancient oak trees\, the traces of prehistoric life found in the earth\, and the vast sense of time fuel my imagination and inspire new artistic ideas. When I paint\, I feel these layers of time merging—Siberia\, the Urals\, the Yenisei\, and Texas—forming a single\, continuous story. \nMy exhibition is an invitation to step into this story: a personal vision shaped by nature\, memory\, and the universal human desire to find meaning in the world around us.

She is a realist and representational artist who is inspired by color\, shape\, light and shadow of everyday elements seen in our daily lives. \nHer paintings in oil\, watercolor and oil glazes on fired porcelain seem to have added depth through the application of thin layers of color which adds  a translucency to the elements that she paints. \nArtist Bio: \nJudi Simon is a professional illustrator\, graphic designer and medical artist whose career spans over 40 years in the commercial art\, health education\, medical illustration and consumer products fields. \nShe is a representational artist who specializes in fine art oil and watercolor painting with a wide range of still life and portrait subjects.. I am drawn to detail and how light and shadow visually affects objects and color within a still life\, portrait or landscape\, no matter what angle. I try to create depth and excitement in a painting by balancing the lights and darks within the colors and the overall composition. My goal is to draw the viewer into a painting and to spend time enjoying that painting. \n

Two different approaches of this exciting form of art will be explored; photo encaustic and encaustic collage.  All materials are included (except your images.) \nDay 1:  \n\nlearn about the history of encaustics\nlearn the tools and materials\ndemonstrate and prepare the board\, attach image for photo encaustic\nplan and prepare second board for layering collage\nbegin working on prepared board and image to practice with wax\, color\, and layers\nlearn smoothing surfaces\nlearn how to create textured surfaces\n\nDay 2 \n\nbegin working on photo encaustic\nexplore using various types of color materials\ncontinue working on collage\nlearn embedding techniques with tissue paper and materials\npractice glazing\nusing stencils\nmark making and incising\nsubtractive techniques\nlearn finishing techniques\n\nAbout Artist: \nJaimie is a lens based interdisciplinary artist.  Her work is rooted in place in a spiritual way within the natural world. She explores different themes but the ideas throughout are connection to the universal through nostalgic appeal to a place. There is a comforting solidarity and peaceful longing about the past and a photograph is already in the past.  Currently exploring digital with edited and some composited images\, she prints the images on archival papers\, then further manipulates with hand-coloring\, painting\, and sometimes encaustics.  The results are often described as ethereal.     \nJaimie has a long use photography of traditional film and silver gelatin\, Cyanotype\, Van Dyke\, Photograms\, photo manipulations\, infrared\,  encaustics\, and other alternative processes.  As a fine art major\, she began exploring hand tinting\, coloring\, and painting of photographs with oils\, pencils\, and water based media while at the university.  She used 35 mm\, 2 1/4 x 21/4\, and toy cameras.  \nHer work is archival; made with materials for longevity.  She has been in many galleries\, press\, and venues.  Pieces are in private\, public\, and corporate collections.
